Francesca Leasi came to the Global Genome Initiative as a Buck postdoctoral fellow in August 2015. She is interested in exploring the genome evolution of marine microscopic animals living in the sediments (meiofauna). She is comparing the genome of allopatric species across different taxa that have been separated by the geological closure of the seaway across the Panama Isthmus. She received a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology at Modena and Reggio Emilia University, Italy.
